A bowl of chocolate oatmeal

The idea of chocolate oatmeal for breakfast didn’t appeal to me at first but I decided to try a commercial chocolate instant oatmeal just to see what it was like. It really was quite good! One morning, I thought “I’ll bet I can figure out how to make this myself” and the journey began. It wasn’t as easy as it appears. It took about 2 weeks of almost every day experimenting to reach the final product. It’s one of my favorites, now! I hope you like it, too!

MICROWAVE CHOCOLATE OATMEAL (Pantry Cooking II)

1/3 cup rolled oats, either quick or regular
1/16 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1-1/4 teaspoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon mini chocolate chips
1/2 cup water

Stir together all but the water in a cereal bowl. Stir in water. Microwave on HI for 75 to 90 seconds or until water is absorbed. Stir. Serve with milk. Serves 1.

Note: Regular rolled oats will result in cereal with more texture.

TIP: Make up a bunch of mixes ahead of time so all you have to do is add water. They are perfect in half cup containers.
